Sports Massage Calgary

Sports Massage - Performance Support, Injury Prevention & Recovery

You don’t have to be an elite athlete to benefit from a sports therapeutic massage.

Whether you’re training for an event, hiking the trails every weekend, or managing the physical demands of your job, your body deserves recovery just as much as activity.

Sports massage at Wild Roots Massage Therapy in Calgary NW is designed to support your movement goals- improving performance, preventing injuries, and helping you bounce back faster after activity. Each session is tailored to your body and your routine, with techniques that focus on the specific muscles you rely on most.

What Is Sports Massage?

Sports massage is a dynamic, movement-focused treatment that combines therapeutic pressure, stretching, and targeted muscle work to support physically active bodies. It’s ideal for pre-event prep, post-workout recovery, or long-term maintenance for people who move often or push their physical limits.

Unlike relaxation massage, sports massage zeroes in on the muscles and joints that take the most impact, helping improve blood flow, reduce soreness, and restore mobility where you need it most.

When Is Sports Massage Helpful?

This treatment is ideal if you:

  • Work out regularly or play sports

  • Hike, run, lift weights, or do repetitive movements.

  • Recovering from a physical injury or flare-up?

  • Tightness in your hips, calves, shoulders, or lower back

  • Want to improve flexibility and range of motion

  • Experience delayed soreness (DOMS) after training

  • Trying to prevent injury or avoid overtraining fatigue?

It’s also a supportive option for anyone with a physically demanding job, whether you’re on your feet all day, lifting heavy, or moving repetitively.

How It Helps

Sports massage helps your body perform and recover by:

  • Flushing metabolic waste and reducing inflammation

  • Increasing circulation to muscles and joints

  • Releasing tight or shortened muscles

  • Improving movement efficiency and neuromuscular coordination

  • Breaking up adhesions and improving tissue elasticity

  • Reducing the risk of overuse injuries

Depending on your needs, I may include techniques like active release, dynamic stretching, cupping, or trigger point therapy to enhance the effects of treatment.

What to Expect in a Session

Every session begins with a quick check-in about your activity level, physical goals, and areas of tension. Based on what we discussed, I’ll customize your treatment with a focus on function, alignment, and recovery.

Your session might include:

  • Targeted muscle release in the hips, glutes, hamstrings, shoulders, or calves

  • Passive or assisted stretches to open up tight movement chains

  • Myofascial release for areas like the IT band, quads, or rotator cuff

  • Cupping therapy to decompress fascia and reduce inflammation

  • Breathwork or gentle nervous system support to help your body integrate the changes

As always, pressure and techniques are adjusted in real time. You’ll leave feeling supported, not sore or depleted.

Who It’s For

You don’t need to be a professional athlete to benefit from sports massage. This treatment is for:

  • Runners, cyclists, lifters, climbers, or weekend warriors

  • Active people balancing high-intensity training with work or family life

  • Those recovering from an injury or surgery, and wanting to rebuild mobility.

  • People who feel stiff or “stuck” after exercise or long days on their feet

  • Anyone looking to prevent injuries and stay moving for the long term.

Train Hard. Recover Smarter.

The way you take care of your body in between workouts matters. Sports massage gives your muscles the recovery they need, so you can keep doing what you love, without pain holding you back.
